FAQ / How can I volunteer for National Public Lands Day?

Several agencies have links to recreation-related employment, student employment, internships, and other paid and non-paid opportunities. To access a listing of some of these agencies, please visit Recreation.gov's web page on recreation-related employment.

If you are interested in volunteer opportunities specifically, you may wish to search the Volunteer.gov/gov web site directly. This web site is a partnership among several state and federal agencies whose aim is to provide a single, easy-to-use Internet portal of volunteer opportunity information.

You may also wish to view information on the Take Pride in America Initiative, which encourages federal, state and local public and private partnerships, and volunteer service organizations to protect public parks, recreation areas, and cultural resources. Take Pride’s web site features a searchable database of short-term and long-term volunteer opportunities on public lands.

Finally, National Public Lands Day 2008 is September 27. National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. This annual event educates Americans about critical environmental and natural resources issues and the need for shared stewardship of the nation's lands; builds partnerships between the public sector and the local community based on mutual interests in the enhancement and restoration of public lands; and improves public lands for outdoor recreation, with volunteers assisting land managers in hands-on work. For more information, or to register and/or find an event, please visit http://www.publiclandsday.org/.
