News / Agents Reunite Lost Boy with His Mother

Falfurrias, Texas — A mother was reunited with her 10-year-old son on Sunday after they became separated during an attempt to illegally enter the country.


The incident began on Friday when the mother, along with several other illegal aliens, were apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Falfurrias Border Patrol Station. The woman informed agents that her 10-year-old son had become detached from the group and was left behind in the brush. A search team consisting of Falfurrias Border Patrol agents, members of the Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) unit and CBP Air and Marine aircraft was immediately activated. Severe weather forced the temporary suspension of the air search while determined agents on the ground continued the search.


Early Sunday morning, the Brooks County Sherriff’s Office contacted the Falfurrias station and forwarded information on a 911 call received from an unspecified location from within a local ranch. Brooks County informed Falfurrias agents that a caller claiming to be part of a group trekking through the brush was lost and had depleted their water supply. Within two hours, nine illegal aliens were located and among them was the young boy who was immediately reunited with his mother. All of the illegal aliens are reported to be in good health and are pending processing for removal to their country.


Through their diligent search and rescue actions, Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents helped to prevent the possibility of a deadly situation. “These rescues are examples of the determined efforts exerted by all agents to save lives while safeguarding our nation,” said Chief Patrol Agent Ronald D. Vitiello.
