News / Albuquerque Man Receives 10-Year Prison Sentence for Crack Cocaine Trafficking Conviction

ALBUQUERQUE—This morning in federal court in Albuquerque, a United States District Judge sentenced Anthony Jerome Bacon, 51, of Albuquerque, to a 10-year term of imprisonment to be followed by four years of supervised release for his cocaine base trafficking conviction. Bacon has been in federal custody since his arrest in December 2010.

United States Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales said that Bacon was charged with possession of cocaine base, also known as “crack,” with intent to distribute on December 15, 2010. Bacon has been in federal custody since his arrest on December 23, 2010. On May 4, 2011, Bacon pled guilty to the indictment.

According to court filings, in September 2010, a confidential informant working with the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) identified Bacon as a drug dealer who sold crack in Albuquerque. Based on information from the informant, officers of APD’s Eastside Narcotics Unit conducted surveillance of Bacon on September 30, 2011, and observed him drive to a parking lot located between Zuni and Virginia Street SE in Albuquerque. In that parking lot, the officers observed Bacon participate in what appeared to be a drug deal with two other men. Shortly thereafter, the officers executed a stop of Bacon’s vehicle. After a narcotics canine alerted to the vehicle, the officers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. When they executed the search warrant, the officers seized approximately 28 grams of crack from Bacon’s vehicle and arrested Bacon on state charges. Following his arrest, Bacon remained in state custody until his arrest on federal charges in December 2010.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the APD, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kimberly A. Brawley.
