News / Attorney General Sues Springdale "Natario". Illegal law practice allegedFAYETTEVILLE -- The state has sued a Springdale "natario" and her business for allegedly charging for immigration assistance, visas, tax assistance, identification and power of attorney letters, according to the state Attorney General's Office. The suit names Victoria Nimroozi and her business Latin Community Services of Springdale. Nimroozi allegedly offers her services under the name Vicky Carreon. The suit, filed Friday in Washington County Circuit Court by the Arkansas Attorney General's Office, contends "natarios" and "natarios publicos" are not attorneys and cannot give legal advice. Under Arkansas law, any person using the term "notario" or "notario publico" or any similar term must actually be a notary public and provide notice in their advertising that they are not a licensed attorney and cannot practice law and cannot offer legal advice. State officials say "notaries" take advantage of a literal English translation of "notario publico." In Latin America, "notaries" refers to members of the legal community who have specialized training in various areas of the law. There is no equivalent in the United States. The only services a certified notary public can perform in the United States are witnessing signatures and administering oaths, according to the attorney general's office. "When dealing with anyone that is offering you legal advice for compensation, remember that unless they are an attorney they cannot legally advise you nor are they likely to have the legal training you seek," according to a warning issued by the attorney general's office.
