News / Border Patrol Seizes a Ton of Pot Stashed Inside Abandoned Building

Tucson, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents assigned to the Casa Grande Border Patrol Station discovered 110 bundles of marijuana being stored in an abandoned building near the Village of Little Tucson, Ariz. on the Tohono O’odham Reservation early Wednesday.

Agents were working in the area in the early morning hours when the trail they were following led past an abandoned building. Agents smelled the distinct aroma of marijuana and investigated further. Inside, agents found 110 bundles of marijuana weighing a combined 2,500 pounds.

This is the second large load of narcotics Tucson agents have seized over the past two days.

During fiscal year 2007 Tucson agents seized nearly 900,000 pounds of marijuana.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
