News / CBP Officers at Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge Apprehend Fugitive Wanted on Alleged Charge of Sexual Assault of a Child

Hidalgo, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge apprehended a traveler wanted by the state of Texas on an alleged charge of sexual assault of a child.

On April 9, CBP officers working the northbound pedestrian lanes at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge came in contact with a traveler returning from Mexico. At primary, the man was identified as Roberto Gonzalez Jr. a U.S. citizen, age 26 from Pharr, Texas. A CBP officer referred Gonzalez to secondary for further inspection. A check of a CBP national database identified Gonzalez as a fugitive wanted by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, Galveston, Texas on an alleged charge of sexual assault of a child. After his arrest, Gonzalez was transferred to the custody of Hidalgo, Texas Police Department. Pending extradition proceedings back to Galveston, Gonzalez remains incarcerated.

Hector A. Mancha, CBP port director said, “Our frontline CBP officers continue to do great work in screening arriving international travelers. A quick check of our database quickly identified this man as a fugitive and he is now in state custody.”
