News / CBP Officers Find Marijuana Stashed Inside Garden Hose Reels

Otay Mesa, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Otay Mesa, Calif. passenger port of entry discovered 85 pounds of marijuana hidden inside two rolled up garden hoses in the back of a Ford F-150 pickup truck filled with landscaping tools.

At about 4 a.m. Wednesday, a CBP officer and his detector dog were screening vehicles waiting to enter the U.S. when the dog alerted to the truck driven by a 35-year-old U.S. citizen. The man and vehicle were escorted to the secondary area for an intensive inspection.


Officers found the 20 packages of marijuana inside of two garden hose reels. CBP seized the marijuana valued at $51,000.

The man, a Tijuana resident, was arrested was booked into the San Diego County Jail.
