News / CBP Officers Seize Marijuana Hidden in Purses

Douglas, Arizona — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers Wednesday seized two purses containing approximately eight pounds of marijuana at the port of entry in Douglas, Ariz.

CBP Officers were screening travelers when they came in contact with two women from Sonora, Mexico. One woman was 31 years old, the other was 21. The officers noticed that both women were carrying large purses that appeared to be heavier than normal.

The CBP officers searched the two purses and discovered that both were attempting to smuggle approximately four pounds of marijuana each in the bottom of their purses. The total weight of marijuana was just under 8 pounds with an estimated street value of $12,000.


CBP officers seized the marijuana. The two women were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
