News / CBP Officers Stop Attempted Alien Smuggling Attempt, Arrest 2 Women on Alien Smuggling Charges

Brownsville, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Brownsville port of entry this weekend discovered a female passenger in a red Ford F-150 that did not have the proper documents to legally enter United States. The driver and a passenger were arrested on felony alien smuggling charges.

On Sunday, November 15, a 2006 Ford F-150 arrived at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas driven by Maria Isabel Olivares, a U.S. citizen, age 27, from Brownsville, Texas. Accompanying the driver were two passengers, Aracely Valdez Robledo and a woman presenting a legitimate birth certificate.

A CBP officer referred the vehicle to secondary inspection. In secondary, a CBP officer discovered that the female passenger presented a birth certificate bearing someone else's name. After further inspection, CBP officers discovered the passenger’s true identity and determined she did not have valid entry documents. CBP officers arrested Maria Isabel Olivares and passenger Aracely Valdez Robledo on federal alien smuggling charges. Both women remain incarcerated pending further proceedings.

The female passenger was arrested, remains in federal custody and will be processed and returned to Mexico in accordance with expedited removal proceedings. The 2006 Ford F-150 was seized.

“A primary CBP officer’s routine examination of documents resulted in these arrests and the prevention of this undocumented alien’s entry into the country. This was a great detection by Brownsville CBP officers as they continue to protect our nation's borders,” said Michael Freeman, CBP Port Director, Brownsville port of entry.
