News / CBP U.S. Border Patrol Agents Rescue FamilyAjo, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Tucson Sector apprehended a male illegal alien Sunday who stated he left his wife and 11-year-old son lost in the desert. Agents assigned to the Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue Team (BORSTAR) immediately started a tracking operation. After several hours, the family was located and BORSTAR agents determined the son needed additional medical attention. The child was transported to a local hospital where he was evaluated and later discharged. The family was transported to the Tucson Coordination Center for processing. Tucson Sector agents conducted more than 540 rescues in the first 10 months of this fiscal year (Oct.1, 2009 through Jul. 31, 2010). The Border Patrol is committed to preventing illegal immigrants and dangerous contraband from entering the country, but agents also stand ready to assist anyone in need of medical attention, regardless of their country of origin. BORSTAR agents specialize in search and rescue operations and are able to medically assess subjects found in distress. U.S. Border Patrol agents remain vigilant not only for immigration and narcotics, but also for dangerous criminals attempting to enter the U.S. illegally. The interception of a convicted murderer exemplifies the Border Patrol’s ongoing efforts to secure our borders from all threats. Apprehending dangerous criminals, including those previously convicted of heinous crimes, is one way the Border Patrol works to improve the quality of life in border communities and throughout the country. http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/newsroom/news_releases/local/08312010_2.xml |
