News / Christmas at Naco Allows CBP to Connect with Local Community

Naco, Ariz. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers participate with the Bisbee, Ariz., Rotary Club in their untiring efforts to bring Christmas to the less fortunate.


This 10th annual event known as "Christmas at Naco" is coordinated by the Bisbee Rotary Club in conjunction with the dedicated efforts of the Sierra Vista Arizona West Rotary, dozens of Bisbee residents, Cochise County retailers, and civic and security officials on both sides of the border. On Christmas Day, these volunteers give some of their precious time that they could be spending with their families and generously assist with this annual event.

This heart warming encounter unselfishly provides fresh food, clothing, toys and new bedding as well as the opportunity to meet Santa, to more than 300 deserving residents of Naco, Sonora, Mexico. This selfless act of giving is warmly hand delivered by volunteers from the various organizations. CBP allows this generous exchange of Christmas spirit to take place at the border in a patch of land called "No Man's Land" which remains on the U.S. side of the border. No one leaves empty handed.


Customs and Border Protection is proud to participate annually in this warm charitable act provided by all of these volunteers” said Eli Villarreal, assistant port director for the Douglas and Naco ports of entry “This exemplifies the full scope of the CBP mission. We are committed in keeping secure our nation’s borders as well as the welfare of those whose lives we touch.”
