News / Door-to-door shredding business helps customers prevent ID theftWith the ever-looming threat of identity theft, tearing documents in half and tossing them in the trash may not be enough to keep personal information safe.Palm Desert resident Dianna Forsythe recently started Shred-N-Go, a mobile shredding company, to help valley residents protect their identities. "Any person or business that receives mail needs to shred," said Forsythe, who is also a background-screened notary public. "You're at a risk when you just throw that away." Forsythe comes to customers with the Shred-N-Go van, which comes with a desk work station and a 42-gallon shredder that can tear up the contents of a file box in about 20 minutes before needing to be emptied. The "energy smart" shredder also can handle materials such as credit cards, CDs or floppy disks. There is no minimum amount required per shredding appointment and no service charge to come to the customer's location. "I was delighted by her 'not just another customer' attitude," said Robin Best of La Quinta, who regularly shreds her documents. "She went way above and beyond to help me." It's the help she is providing people that keeps Forsythe inspired. "I've had people come to me in parking lots more than once and ask can you help me," she said.
