News / Enterprise Business License Change

Enterprise officials are in the process of implementing state-mandated changes in how they issue business licenses.

The changes for all Alabama cities must be in effect by New Year’s Day, 2008.

Unlike many Wiregrass towns, Enterprise will absorb any additional expenses by not increasing license fees.

There are about 6,000 business licenses issued in the city of progress.

Under the new format, all cities must use a standard license form and must charge standardized late penalties.

“The council chose not to implement an increase which is discretionary on our citizens,” says Enterprise City Clerk Steven Hicks. “We are going to absorb any increase expenses at this time for those licenses."

City council members believe it would be unfair to burden small business with additional costs at this time.
