News / Governor Palin Orders Flags Lowered

September 10, 2008, Fairbanks, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin has ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff on September 11, 2008, which is Patriot Day. Patriot Day was signed into law on December 18, 2001, as a day to remember those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks against the United States seven years ago.

President George W. Bush issued a proclamation requesting all states lower their flags on Patriot Day.

“America will always remember the tragic events of September 11,” Governor Palin said. “As we take time to remember those who lost their lives that day, let us also remember the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform who defend our families and our freedom every day.”

Governor Palin has ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, September 11, 2008, to honor and remember all of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. State flags will be raised to full-staff the following day.
