Bratislava, November 12 (TASR-SLOVAKIA) - Notaries should bare responsibility for the contracts that they mediate, said Slovak Justice Minister Stefan Harabin in Bratislava on Monday following a working lunch with his Italian counterpart Clemente Mastella.

"From the point of view of legal certainty, it's very important that those who invest in Slovakia have the assurance that they are buying property from the (real) owner and are not the victim of deception," said Harabin. In Italy, damages caused by property deception are covered by the insurance of the notary who mediates the contract.

"We think that if there were greater security of property it would lead to more interest from foreign investors," said Mastella.

The two ministers also discussed other topics at their meeting, such as asylum, deciding on proceedings within the EU context, reform of Eurojust (an EU body set up to co-ordinate the fight against organised crime), and the harmonisation of European criminal law.
