NEWS / Moldova joins the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention

Chisinau, March 6, 2006 (moldova.org) --- According to a report of the Moldovan news agency Reporter.MD, the Moldovan Parliament, on March 2, ratified the Hague Apostille Convention. The Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents is a multilateral treaty, the main purpose of which is to facilitate the circulation of public documents issued by a State Party to the Convention and to be produced in another State Party to the Convention. Now, Moldova is among 87 states that are part of the Hague Apostille Convention. The apostille, or special stamp, used by any signatory states that ensure the recognition of documents abroad will be applied by Moldova .Before Moldova became a part of this convention, documents to be used in Moldova from a country that is a party of the Hague Convention had to have a long journey through different institutions before reaching Moldova and be recognized as valid: had to be sent to the ministry of foreign affairs of that country to be certified, as well as to the Moldovan embassy abroad, among others. Today, once an individual receives and apostille on a document in a Hague Convention country and the document is going to be used in Moldova , the document is ready without any headache or delays. As the same news agency reports, the permanent representative of the Moldovan Ministry of Justice at the Parliament, Nicolae Esanu, said that the application of the Convention will facilitate international movement and will enhance Moldova
