News / New York CBP Officers Rescue Resilient Puppy from Airplane Cargo Bay

Jamaica, N.Y. – On Saturday, January 23, three U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers came to the rescue of a puppy that was cold and clinging to life. The puppy which arrived on a flight from Mexico City was found within a cargo bay on board an aircraft at JFK.

The drop in temperature and the stress of flying can be daunting to even the toughest traveler. But for one pint sized pup arriving into JFK it was almost deadly. On Saturday night, CBP received a call regarding two puppies that appeared to be dead in a cargo bay at JFK. Three officers quickly responded to assess the situation, only to find one puppy dead and another clinging for life. The officers quickly intervened administering first aid and quickly warming the puppy. The resilient puppy was revived and pulled through.

No matter how uncommon the call, CBP officers are always willing and ready to assist,” said Robert E. Perez, director of Field Operations, New York Field Office.

The veterinarian that evaluated and treated the puppy said that he is playful and doing well. The puppy has been reunited with his owner.
