News / Nogales CBP Seizes $19,174 in Undeclared Currency from Travelers Shoes

Nogales, Ariz. – Customs and Border Protection officers screening travelers at the DeConcini port of entry discovered $19,174 in undeclared currency hidden in a traveler’s shoes.

On Sunday afternoon, CBP officers were screening travelers leaving the United States when they selected an 18-year-old man for inspection. CBP officers approached the young man from Pasco, Wash., and began to ask routine questions. The man began to exhibit nervous behavior. He was referred for further inspection. Upon examination officers discovered currency wrapped in cellophane in the man’s shoes. The total amount hidden in the shoes was $19,174.


The money was seized. The man was arrested for failing to declare the currency and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
