News / San Luis Backpack Smuggling Attempt Derailed by Border Patrol

Yuma, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents seized more than 100 pounds of marijuana Monday in San Luis, Ariz.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma Station detected the entry of three individuals just west of the San Luis port of entry at 8:30 p.m. As agents investigated, they discovered three backpacks containing several bundles of marijuana.


Agents secured the contraband and continued to track the suspected smugglers. Agents caught up to and apprehended a male subject and discovered that the other two individuals had returned to Mexico.


A total of 55 plastic-wrapped bundles of marijuana weighing 104.89 pounds and worth an estimated street value of $83,912 were seized.


The marijuana was turned over to the Yuma County Narcotics Task Force.
