News / USCIS to Review Immigration Cases that Could Benefit From Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) today announced it would immediately place certain cases on hold while individuals and groups are considered for exemptions under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008 (CAA).USCIS’ action is based on expanded discretionary authority provided to the Department of Homeland Security by the CAA. The legislation, effective Dec. 26, 2007, amended the Secretary’s discretionary authority to exempt certain individuals or groups from security-related inadmissibility grounds. The agency’s policy memorandum detailing this issue is available for review in the Related Links section of this page. |
