News / Yuma Agents Seize Marijuana, $31kYuma, Ariz. – Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents seized more than 254 pounds of marijuana and more than $31,000 in two separate incidents yesterday and this morning.On Nov. 2, Wellton Station agents patrolling near Painted Rock Road located five, abandoned, burlap wrapped backpacks containing approximately 254 pounds of marijuana. The marijuana, valued at an estimated $127,368, was transported to Wellton Station for destruction. Due to the Border Patrol’s increased efforts to disrupt and deny transnational criminal organizations from operating in Yuma Sector, smugglers often abandon their drug loads rather than risk apprehension and prosecution. On Nov. 3, Blythe Station agents conducting checkpoint operations on Interstate 10 referred a white Honda Accord to secondary inspection. After the driver consented to a vehicle search, agents discovered $31,802 packaged within cinnamon rolls. The suspect, currency and vehicle were turned over to the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office.
