NEWS / Parental abuse victim and convicted murderer Gypsy-Rose Blanchard takes paternity test to have boyfriend listed as her baby’s father on birth certificate – report

Convicted murdered and reality TV show star Gypsy-Rose Blanchard has done a paternity test ahead of the birth of her first baby with her boyfriend Ken Urker, PEOPLE reports. The test was done in part to prevent the listing of Blanchard’s estranged husband Ryan Anderson, as the baby’s father on the birth certificate per Louisiana law.

According to the State’s law, a husband is automatically listed as the father of a child if there is no divorce or within 300 days of a divorce. Blanchard and Anderson were married when the former was still in prison in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. Since her parole in December 2023, Blanchard rekindled her relationship with ex-fiancé Ken Urker and is now expected to give birth to their baby in January 2025.

In a TikTok video on his channel, Ryan Anderson responded to the news of the paternity test by saying he “doesn’t understand” Gypsy-Rose’s decision to get the test given that he had “always said” it was not his baby.

Gypsy-Rose Blanchard made the headlines in 2015, when was convicted of the second-degree murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. The investigation further discovered that Gypsy-Rose sustained years-long abuse from her mother, including having to pretend to be be disabled and terminally ill with cancer. Her mother would also physically abuse her daughter, including by squeezing her hand very tightly when Gypsy would say something that would imply that she was not ill or disabled.

Dee Dee went so far as to forge Gypsy’s birth certificate, originally issued in Lafourche Parish, to make her appear 4 years younger (changing the year of birth from 1991 to 1995).

Gypsy-Rose made rose contact with Nicholas Godejohn, a man around the same age as she was, on a Christian dating site in 2012. Having maintained a long-distance relationship with Godejohn, the 2 eventually met physically in 2015, had sex, and then started planning to murder Dee Dee and elope. The murder itself was technically perpetrated by Godejohn, but with Gypsy-Rose’s active assistance.

While the newfound couple tried to escape to Godejohn’s home in Wisconsin at first, they were eventually apprehended by the police thanks to a tip-off by the Blachards’ neighbor Aleah Woodmansee. Gypsy-Rose plead guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, while Godejohn was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus an additional 25 years for armed criminal action.

The investigation of the abusive conditions Gypsy-Rose had to deal with because of her mother gained widespread media attention. Hulu produced the true crime series The Act, starring Joey King as Gypsy-Rose and Patricia Arquette as her mother, based on the events of the case in 2019. She was also featured as a guest on Dr. Phil.

During her stay in prison, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard became pen-pals with Ken Urker and the couple became engaged. However, that relationship ended, and Blanchard subsequently married Louisiana teacher Ryan Anderson in July 2022 in a prison ceremony. In December 2023, Blanchard’s sentence was paroled and she was released. Her relationship with her husband had broken down, and she rekindled her previous relationship with Urker, becoming pregnant with his child in April 2024. In the meantime, Blanchard also began her own reality TV show Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up on Lifetime.
