NEWS / Cause of death of North Carolina woman “gunshot wound of head,” according to death certificate


A North Carolina woman died as a result of being shot in her head, her death certificate states. The death certificate was obtained by WITN 7 News.

23-year-old Maya Amarante was found dead along with one other adult on January 19 at Charleston Place Apartments in the City of Jacksonville located in southeastern North Carolina. Amarante’s death certificate specifies that she was shot by a “9mm handgun by other person”.

WITN 7 News was unable to obtain the death certificate for the other deceased individual. Amarante and the other individual were discovered dead by the police after officers went into the apartment complex for a welfare check on January 19 around 2:30 pm. WITN 7 News reported on the incident on January 20.
