NEWS / CBP Field Operations in Alexandria Bay, N.Y. Arrest Man Wanted for Vehicular Homicide

Alexandria Bay, N.Y. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations announced the apprehension of a United States citizen wanted in Maryland on vehicular homicide charges.

On March 1, CBP officers in Alexandria Bay encountered Gerald Barnett, a 56-year-old, United States citizen from Elkton, Del. as he applied for admission into the United States at the Alexandria Bay, N.Y. port of entry. Mr. Barnett advised CBP officers that he was returning home after an ice fishing trip in Canada. A primary name query by CBP revealed that Mr. Barnett may be the subject of an active warrant issued in the State of Maryland.

During secondary processing, additional record checks confirmed that Mr. Barnett was in fact the subject of a no-bond felony warrant issued Feb. 16, by the Maryland State Police North East. The warrant charges Mr. Barnett with negligent automobile homicide-under the influence, negligent automobile homicide-while impaired and failure to render reasonable assistance to injured person.

CBP officers verified the validity of the warrant and confirmed extradition to Maryland. Mr. Barnett was arrested and turned over to the custody of the New York State Police pending extradition to Maryland.
