NEWS / Indiana County stops issuing birth and death certificates after officer suspension

Warwick County, Indiana, is no longer issuing birth death certificates due to the suspension of Warwick County Health Board officer Dr. Ricky Yeager. Since the county’s health department operates under Dr. Yeager’s medical license, the county can neither issue these vital records, nor order or administer vaccines.

Interim Administrator Marlin Weisheit told WFIE 14 News that the Dr. Yeager got suspended on Wednesday, June 12.

“I’m working through this as we speak,” Coroner Sarah Seaton was quoted by WFIE 14 News as stating, “It could certainly be an impedance, but I’m confident now that they understand the impact on my department, swift action will be taken to remedy,”

Funeral homes in Warrick County have reported that they would not be able to proceed with cremations or burials until the county starts issuing death certificates again.

Interim Administrator Weisheit indicated that a hearing on whether to reinstate Dr. Yeager will be held on Tuesday, June 18, with Yeager being given the opportunity to present his case before the County Health Board.

In the meantime, the county has been in contact with the Indiana State Board of Health in an attempt to figure out a quick solution on resuming the county’s usual health department services, according to Warrick County Attorney Andrew Skinner.
