NEWS / Russian Parliament Approves Easier Registration for Foreigners

The State Duma has facilitated the migration registration of foreign citizens in Russian territory, the ITAR-TASS news agency reports. A corresponding draft law was adopted by the Duma on Friday after the third and final reading.

According to the document, the procedure for the entry of migrants to Russia will be changed: from now on, the migrants will have to inform the corresponding authorities in Russia of their arrival, instead of asking for the permission to stay. Besides, they will be allowed to move freely about Russia and choose a place of residence.

At the same time, the registration of migrants will be continued. It will include the registration of foreign citizens in the place of residence and in the place of the stay. A state information system of the registration of migrants will be created.

The new rules are planned to be put into effect, starting from January 15, 2007.
