NEWS / Troy Resident Indicted on Child Pornography Charges


Defendant Alleged to Have Produced and Possessed Child Pornography

ALBANY, NY—United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and Clifford C. Holly, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Albany Division, announce the filing of an indictment charging RONALD RAFFERTY, age 63, of Troy, New York, with producing and possessing child pornography, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 2251(a) and 2252A(a)(5)(B), respectively. Count one of the indictment charges that between about 2005 and 2008, RAFFERTY produced child pornography videos. Count two of the Indictment charges that on or about May 3, 2011, RAFFERTY knowingly possessed images of child pornography. If found guilty of count one, the defendant faces a statutory maximum sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years, and a maximum fine of $250,000.00. If found guilty of count two, the defendant faces a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years of imprisonment and a maximum fine of $250,000.00.

RAFFERTY was arraigned on the charges in Albany on July 20, 2011 before the Honorable Randolph F. Treece, United States Magistrate Judge. RAFFERTY was detained pending his trial scheduled for September 19, 2011 before the Honorable Gary L. Sharpe.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Troy Police Department. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rick Belliss.

The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
