Getting an Apostille can be a challenging process especially when you are clueless about what is the apostille and why someone is requesting it from you. To get an apostille you should first identify the type of document that you have and where it was issued. Now you are one step closer to getting that dreaded apostille. The type of documents determines the procedure you must follow to get that document apostilled. Personal and corporate documents which are issued by the state government must be recently issued certified copies in order to be eligible for apostille. This will include all birth, death and marriage certificates as well as articles of incorporation,articles of formation, certificates under seal, good standing certificates and certificates of existence. All other documents must be properly notarized. The state part determines where you should apply to get the apostille. Keep in mind that getting an apostille on Florida documents will not be possible in California or Texas for example. Next staep on getting an apostille is contact the State Secretary Office or the equivalent in your state to confirm their requirements, fees and processing times.
