NEWS / Border Patrol Agents Seize More than $45,000 in Heroin

Calexico, Calif. - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents working in Calexico discovered a package containing approximately 1.3 pounds of heroin yesterday afternoon.

U.S. Border Patrol agents noticed an individual come across the international boundary fence approximately three miles east of the Calexico, Calif., downtown port of entry. Agents observed that the individual appeared to be running back and forth between the fence and the south side of Anza Road.

Moments later, agents traveling southbound on Bowker Road toward Anza Road noticed a black, softball-size package lying on the west side of the intersection. After Border Patrol agents retrieved the package, the individual that attempted to illegally enter into the United States immediately returned back to Mexico.

The package was transported to the Calexico Border Patrol Station where its contents were tested. The testing of the contents revealed that the substance was black tar heroin with an estimated street value of more than $45,000.

The heroin was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The El Centro Sector Border Patrol is dedicated to ensuring the security of the United States and reducing crime in our communities by removing dangerous drugs from the streets.
