Iranian-American model Sam Asghari, the husband of world-famous American pop singer Brittney Spears, has filed for divorce. According to the divorce filing cited by AP News, the couple separated nearly 3 weeks ago and Asghari is seeking spousal support and attorney fees.

The 29-year old model cited “irreconcilable” differences with his 41-year-old spouse. He wants Spears to pay him financial support and cover his lawyer fees. The filing indicates that the value of their joint assets is yet to be determined.

Spears married Asghari at her home in Thousand Oaks, Ventura County, California, in June 2022, 6 months after the singer was finally able to dissolve the court conservatorship that controlled her life for more than 13 years.

During the marriage ceremony, Spears’ ex-husband Jason Alexander, with whom the singer had been married for less than 3 days in 2004, attempted to crash her wedding and was ultimately convicted of misdemeanor trespassing and battery.

Spears met Asghari during the shooting of her music video for the song “Slumber Party” in 2016. They became engaged in September 2021, but the conservatorship prevented Spears from formally tying the knot with Asghari until it was dissolved in November 2021. The dissolution of the conservatorship, initially put in place by Spears’ father Jamie Spears, was brought about at least in part thanks to the #FreeBritney fan movement.

Spears was also married to dancer turned rapper Kevin Federline (also known as K-Fed), with whom she has 2 sons, currently in the custody of Federline.

Spears became world famous for her 1999 hit “...Baby One More Time”, which was followed by “Oops!...I Did It Again” in 2000. Both songs, which were featured on her first 2 albums of the same names, were written by legendary Swedish pop producer Max Martin. While her latest album, Glory, was released in 2016, Spears has more recently come out with collaborative singles, such as “Pretty Girls” with Iggy Azalea, “Tom’s Diner” with Giorgio Moroder, “Matches” with Backstreet Boys, “Hold Me Closer” with Elton John, and “Mind Your Business” with will.i.am.
