NEWS / Bureaucratic snafu with birth certificate strands young US couple with newborn baby in Brazil

A couple from Minnesota is stuck in Brazil as they unexpectedly had a baby, born 3 months prematurely, during their trip and are unable to obtain a birth certificate for the newborn.

Due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the baby’s birth, Brazilian authorities are refusing to issue the birth certificate. The US Embassy in Brazil is therefore unable to issue a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, which in turn means that the baby cannot get a US passport.

According to Yahoo News UK, he baby, named Greyson Leo Philips, was born on March 12, 2024, 2 days before the couple was supposed to make their way back home.
