NEWS / CBP Officers Apprehend Escaped Fugitive at Texas Border

Roma, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at Roma, Texas International Bridge apprehended a man wanted on an arrest warrant for escaping the Mid-Valley House.


CBP officers came in contact with a pedestrian Wednesday as he arrived at Roma International Bridge for inspection. At CBP primary, a law enforcement database query alerted officers of a possible match on outstanding arrest warrant for Mario Acevedo Sanchez, a 22-year-old U.S. citizen from La Joya, Texas.

Sanchez was escorted to secondary for further inspection and verification of the outstanding arrest warrant. In secondary, CBP officers verified Sanchez’s identity and confirmed that he was the subject of active arrest warrant from the U.S. Marshal’s Service. Outstanding warrant for Sanchez for escaping from the Mid-valley House was verified, CBP officers arrested Sanchez and subsequently turned him over to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents who investigated the arrest and transported Sanchez to the Star County jail. Sanchez remains incarcerated and will face pending changes.

“Another wanted fugitive is off the streets of the Rio Grande Valley,” said Crescencio Cantu Jr., CBP port director, Roma. “Use of a CBP database by our CBP officers identified Sanchez as the subject of active arrest warrant. Sanchez will now face ending charges for escape. This is an example of the great enforcement work our officers do and great use of our law enforcement database.”
