NEWS / CBP Officers Arrest Tucsonan with $25,440 in Undeclared Currency


Nogales, Ariz. - Customs and Border Protection officers at the DeConcini port of entry were conducting routine screening of travelers leaving the United States when discovered $25,440 in undeclared currency hidden in a man’s groin area.


On Thursday, September 10, CBP officers were screening travelers aboard a commercial bus leaving the United States when they selected a 32-year-old man from Tucson for inspection. The Tucsonan was traveling to Mexico. He declared to CBP officers he was carrying $5,000 in cash. Officers referred the man to secondary for verification of the money.


In secondary, officers advised the man they would be conducting a search and they discovered additional money hidden in his groin area. A total of $25,440 of undeclared currency was discovered.


The money was seized. The man was arrested for failing to declare the currency and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
