NEWS / CBP Officers Arrest University of Arizona Student with Marijuana Taped to Legs


Douglas, Ariz. —U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped a drug smuggling attempt when they apprehended a 19-year-old man trying to smuggle several packages of marijuana.

On December 6 at about 6 p.m. CBP officers were screening travelers when they observed a 19-year-old man carrying gym clothes as he was attempting to enter the United States through the pedestrian screening area. The man was identified as a U.S citizen and a student at the University of Arizona.


The CBP officers searched the student and his gym clothes. The CBP officers discovered two packages of marijuana wrapped in the gym clothes and two more packages that had been taped to his inner thighs. The marijuana had a total weight of about two pounds with an estimated street value of $3,000.


CBP officers seized the marijuana. The U of A student was held for questioning by CBP officers.
