NEWS / CBP Officers Seize 2 Pounds of Cocaine from Mans Shoes


Nogales, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers screening travelers entering the country at the DeConcini port of entry in Nogales on Sunday seized approximately two pounds of cocaine hidden inside the shoes of 27-year-old male and 32 pounds of Marijuana discovered in a vehicle.

The first interception occurred at about 11:50 a.m. when CBP officers noticed a traveler entering the U.S. as a pedestrian and referred him to secondary, he gave a negative declaration, but subject began to act nervous, CBP officers noticed something just wasn’t quite right about his shoes. The subject voluntarily removed his shoes and when CBP officers looked inside they discovered the reason for his nervousness, brown tapped packages inside.


A CBP narcotics detection dog was brought in which alerted to the presence of narcotics in the shoes. Officers discovered packages wrapped in brown tape which contained cocaine, the approximate weight was two pounds.


The second incident occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m. when CBP officers screening travelers entering the U.S. at the DeConcini port of entry became suspicious of 18-year-old Whittman, Ariz., woman driving a 1995 Mercedes coupe. They referred her for an intensive inspection of her vehicle.

After the CBP narcotics detection dog alerted to the rear quarter panel of the vehicle, officers discovered and removed a total of 15 packages of marijuana for a total weight of 32 pounds seized.


In both cases the narcotics was seized and both subjects were arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
