NEWS / Convicted Child Molester Caught By CBP Officers at Douglas Port of Entry

Douglas, Ariz. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers apprehended a convicted child molester who was attempting to enter the U.S. by intermingling with the legitimate traveling public.

On June 12, at about 5:30 p.m., CBP officers were screening traffic coming from Mexico, when the officers became suspicious of a man who was operating a motorcycle. The man, who was accompanied by a woman, was identified as 38-year-old Jesus Castillo Esquer, a registered sex offender for child molestation.

Further investigation revealed that the man had confirmed warrants for indecency with a child and sexual contact, with a $100,000 bond, and aggravated sexual assault with a child, with a $50,000 bond. Felony indictments are pending upon the subject’s arrival in Montgomery County, Texas. The woman accompanying the man was identified as his 52-year-old wife. The woman had no pending issues and was allowed to proceed.

“Our endeavor here at the border carries a lot of responsibility,” said Michael Humphries, area port director for the Douglas-Naco ports of entry. “We truly are the nation’s first line of defense. This is just one example of the many threats that face our nation. As guardians of our nation, Customs and Border Protection remains committed in maintaining a high state of vigilance."

CBP officers apprehended the man and released him to the custody of the Douglas Police Department, pending extradition to Montgomery County.

A criminal complaint is simply the method by which a person is charged with criminal activity and raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
