NEWS / Douglas CBP Officers Find $267,000 in Marijuana in Vehicle Doors

Douglas, Ariz. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped a drug smuggling attempt when they seized about 119 pounds of marijuana concealed in the doors of a vehicle.

On January 27 at about 5:30 p.m. CBP officers at the Douglas port of entry were screening travelers and vehicles when they came in contact with a 23-year-old woman driving a 1996 Chevy Tahoe. The woman was identified as a Mexican national from Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico.

The CBP officers selected the vehicle for inspection. With the assistance of a special trained K-9 Team the vehicle was searched. It was discovered that the doors of the Tahoe were loaded with packages of marijuana. The total weight of marijuana was approximately 119 pounds with an estimated street value $267,000.

CBP officers seized the vehicle and marijuana. The woman was turned over to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
