NEWS / Fugitive on the Run Arrested by CBP Officers at Champlain Border Crossing

Champlain, N.Y - U.S. Customs and Border Protection Buffalo Field Office announced the apprehension of wanted felon, Nathaniel Tilghman at the Champlain port of entry on October 3. Tilghman, a 34-year-old United States citizen from Philadelphia, was captured on the inbound Amtrak train destined to Philadelphia.

Tilghman has been on the run from the law since April 2009. He and an acquaintance claim that they had been residing in Spain to avoid detection from authorities. Tilghman, considered extremely dangerous according to law enforcement officials, was wanted for contempt of court-failure to appear on dangerous drug charges out of Philadelphia. During the interview, Tilghman stated that he and his girlfriend remained in Spain until they collected enough money to return back to the United States.

Tilghman was turned over to the custody of New York State Police pending extradition to the Philadelphia Police Department.

“Our officers in Champlain did an outstanding job in intercepting and confirming the identity of this dangerous criminal,” said James T. Engleman, CBP director of Field Operations for the Buffalo Field Office. “This is a great example of our officers utilizing CBP enforcement tools to make this significant arrest.”
