NEWS / Imposters Arrested, Narcotics Seized at Nogales Port of EntryNogales, Ariz. — Customs and Border Protection officers at the Nogales ports of entry wrapped up a busy weekend with narcotics seizure, an arrest of a wanted Phoenix man and numerous immigration violations. Heading into the weekend CBP officers seize 22 pounds of marijuana in a pick-up truck. The street value of the narcotics is estimated to be as much as $53,000. On Friday, September 12 CBP officers working the Mariposa port of entry were screening travelers returning to the United States when a 50-year-old man from Sonora applied for entry. The man was driving a late model pick-up truck. The primary officer noticed discrepancies with the truck and referred it for further inspection. In secondary, officers utilized a CBP narcotic detection dog which resulted in a positive alert for the presence of narcotics. Officers discovered 12 packages of marijuana hidden in the rear wall of the passenger cabin. The total weight of the narcotics was 22 pounds. Immigration violators also had a hard time as CBP officers screening travelers at the DeConcini port of entry arrested eight for various immigration violations ranging from false claim to U.S. citizenship to an imposter bearing valid entry documents. In addition to the narcotics and immigration violators, an individual was arrested entering at the DeConcini port of entry when CBP officers queried law enforcement systems found he had an outstanding warrant from Mesa County for Failure to Appear (Larceny) he was apprehended and turned over to state and local authorities for proper processing. Those arrested for narcotic violations were turned over to Immigration Customs Enforcement for further investigation and the narcotics were seized.
