NEWS / JFK Passenger Has $1/2 Million in Heroin in Luggage

Jamaica, NY – An Ozone Park, N.Y. resident tried to stroll past U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport with more than 12 pounds of heroin sewn into his pants.

On January 11, officers selected Heriberto Hidalgo Pulido for a routine baggage inspection after his arrival on a flight from Guayaquil, Ecuador. Pulido’s checked bags contained five pairs of pants with unusually thick pockets and seams. A closer inspection revealed a brown powdery substance concealed within the seams and pockets of the pants, which field tested positive for heroin.

“CBP is employs some of the most dedicated, professional law enforcement officers in the country,” stated Robert E. Perez, director, office of field operations, New York. “These highly skilled officers are committed to intercepting any threat or illicit activity before it adversely affects our nation’s communities.”

The narcotics seized during this inspection carried a street value over $500,000. Investigation is ongoing.
