NEWS / OJ Simpson died from prostate cancer—death certificateControversial NFL football star and part-time actor O. J. Simpson died from prostate cancer, according to his death certificate issued by Clark County, Nevada. O. J. Simpson passed away on April 10 at his home in Las Vegas at the age of 76. Attorney Malcolm LaVergne was quoted by the Los Angeles Times as stating that the death certificate “just confirms what I think people widely suspected anyway – it was prostate cancer. No other causes listed.” Simpson’s death was announced by his family on social media platform X on April 11. Throughout his football career, Simpson was often regarded as one of the greatest running backs, receiving 5 consecutive Pro Bowl and the first-time All-Pro selections between 1972 and 1976. He became the first player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season and holds the record for the single-season yards-per-game average at 143.1. He held the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award in 1973. In parallel to his football career, Simpson also pursued acting, appearing in numerous television productions and later moving on to movies. His filmography includes movies such as Firepower (1979), The Naked Gun (1988), and No Place to Hide (1993). Simpson’s professional accomplishments were largely overshadowed by his legal troubles. In 1994, Simpson was accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald L. Goldman. Prosecutors alleged that Simpson murdered the two as he caught them in bed with each other. In October 1995, Simpson, who was represented by renowned lawyer Robert Kardashian, was acquitted of criminal charges. However, 2 years later, he was found guilty in civil court and was ordered to pay $33.5 million to the victims’ families, which he barely did. In 2007, Simpson got arrested and charged with armed robbery and kidnapping as prosecution argued Simpson and a group of other individuals broke into the hotel room of a sports memorabilia dealer and stole the memorabilia from the dealer at gunpoint. Simpson was ultimately convicted of the charges and sentenced to 33 years in prison. However, he was paroled and released in 2017. |
