NEWS / TN Mayoral candidate admits to criminal record over promoting prostitution

Republican Candidate for Mayor of Franklin, Tennessee, Gabrielle Hanson has admitted to having a criminal record over promoting prostitution by working as a scheduler for an escort service in the 1990s. Hanson claims she did not know she was working for an escort agency and plead “no contest” to charges of promoting prostitution in order to save time and money.

Hanson admitted the incident in a video posted on her Instagram account. Hanson had been living in Dallas, Texas, and was looking for a job to supplement her income. She was elated to find a job that paid $10-$12 an hour for taking phone calls from home in what seemed like scheduling appointments for what she thought was a modeling and casting agency.

After a year of work, she was visited by the police, who accused her of promoting prostitution. She considered contesting the charges as she had no knowledge of the fact that the agency, she was working for was in fact engaged in prostitution but knowing that going to trial could be long and expensive, decided to accept a plea deal under deferred adjudication, which allows first-time offenders to avoid convictions. Hanson did not do any prison time but was required to leave Dallas and not return within the next 2-year period.

“I was shocked, I was devastated. Everything I worked for for 13 years was about to come true. It should have been the happiest, most exciting time of my life, and it ended up being the absolute lowest,” Hanson stated, “That was definitely not who I was, but I was definitely in the middle of all of it.”

Following the ordeal, Hanson moved to Chicago. She eventually moved to Franklin, Tennessee, in 2012, and founded Williamson Real Estate. As a realtor, she supported the passage of state-level legislation that allowed Tennessee real-estate licensees to be paid as an LLC. She also eventually became the alderman of the City of Franklin.

Hanson posted the Instagram video shortly after being contacted by NewsChannel 5 Investigates regarding her criminal history.

Hanson has been running a campaign based on promoting conservative values and opposing LGBTQA activities such as Pride Fest. She has often been associated with the MAGA movement started by former US President Donald Trump.
