NEWS / Birth certificate error leads to numerical name for Georgia woman

A woman from the US State of Georgia is going by the name of “Nine” Morrison, due to a clerical error on her birth certificate.

When the 34-year-old woman was born in 1991, a medical records clerk accidentally typed “Loranine” (instead of “Lorraine”) as her middle name, Today reports.

“My name is Nine, like the number, which is actually short for Loranine, which is actually Lorraine misspelled on my birth certificate,” Morrison stated in a TikTok video.

Morrison claims that she had never seen her birth certificate before her 16th birthday and was known by family and friends as “Wiffer”. In 2007, Morrison went to take her driver’s exam and was astounded by the discovery of an incorrectly spelled middle name on her vital record.

But instead of despairing and trying to correct the birth certificate, the woman embraced her new identity and decided to start using her middle name Loranine, shortening it to Nine.

“Loranine fell right into my lap. It was all I ever wanted: a name that stood out, a name that was unique,” Morrison stated. “Now no one ever forgets my name.”

Morrison’s father and grandfather both had the name of Keith misspelled on their birth certificates as “Kieth”. The woman, a hair stylist based in Savannah, Georgia, decided to give her own daughters the gender-neutral names of Copeland and Sawyer.
